∘ Lia Dvalishvili ∘ CLIMATE CHANGE, NEW CHALLENGES, AND FEATURES OF ITS INFLUENCE ON THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC SITUATION OF THE COUNTRY Summary Climate change is recognized as the most pressing challenge facing humanity. The concern of modern society and science is that the global climate is changing rapidly and gradually becoming warmer. As a result, there is the formation of various natural disasters and in some cases the development of catastrophe. The economic and social well-being of the population of any country depends significantly on climate change, considering the human casualties caused by floods, avalanches, landslides, and other natural disasters, the number of which is increasing worldwide every year. Climate change is procedurally a natural process, but 95% of it is caused by human activity. As a new conceptual challenge, it was observed in the middle of the last century, when an unprecedented and irrelevant increase in the world's average annual temperature was revealed. Seven major hazards caused by climate change (floods, hail, drought, landslides, strong winds, avalanches, and mudslides) are perilous for Georgia. Georgia, with its terrain, hydrographic network, and environmental conditions, contains the dangers of the above-mentioned disasters. Based on the data of the National Environment Agency, we can say that in recent years, the frequency and geography of natural disasters caused by climate change have significantly increased in Georgia. The goal of all the activities and planned measures carried out by relevant agencies throughout the country is to increase the resilience of the population of Georgia to climate threats, to reduce the impact of climate disasters on the infrastructure and living environment, and to better protect every citizen of the country from any danger. |
